The Antarctic: A Global Challenge with Local Implications

Australia claims 42% of Antarctica, including two world-heritage-listed sub- Antarctic Islands, and it plays an important role in Antarctic governance. The continent is 98% ice-covered, and protecting Australia and the Pacific from climate change means protecting Antarctica’s ice from melting.
